This is the latest in our series of CPD modules designed to support pharmacists to manage common conditions and deliver England’s new Pharmacy First service and similar schemes in the UK. It will be useful to all community pharmacists in their role of responding to patients’ symptoms.
This module covers assessment and decision-making regarding uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women aged between 16 and 64 years of age.
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Identify the key signs and symptoms to assess the likelihood of infection
- Use strategies to explain why antibiotics are or are not needed, and manage patient expectations
- Talk to local GP practices to ensure consistency in giving/not giving antibiotics
- Show confidence that analgesics and self-care have evidence to support their use instead of supplying antibiotics
- Make effective use of the TARGET antibiotic toolkit and other UTI educational materials.
